7 Reasons to Build an Email List

2/29/2016

Picture
Some people start email lists, get a few people and then give up. They get discouraged because they don't really understand the true benefits of building a large, responsive email list.

Here are seven reasons why you need an email list:

Automatically Follow-Up – An email list allows you to multiply your time in a way that would require a cloning machine! With autoresponders you can have a follow-up system in place that makes sales for you twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

READ MORE: Email Marketing: From Hot Mess to Mega Success in 7 Days

Constantly Build Your Business – New prospects can be signing up to your email list automatically, every day, without your help or involvement. This is a way to be constantly building your business, automatically.

Capture Visitors – You’ve put tons of work into your website. If you’re not capturing visitors,  they’re coming and going, possibly never to return again. If you capture their information, you can keep in contact with them and build the relationship.

Stay on Their Minds – Most of your potential customers or clients won't be ready to buy from you right now. Through email marketing, you can stay on their minds through your email autoresponders and broadcast messages. Then, when they are ready or in need, they'll look back for your emails or remember your website and they'll order from you.

READ MORE: Email Marketing: From Hot Mess to Mega Success in 7 Days

Save Yourself Time – Instead of sharing your message one on one, over and over again, you can now reach one to many. This is going to not only save yourself time but also leverage your time into long-term profits.

Be Super-Human – It's simply not humanly possible to connect one-on-one with all your prospects and customers the way you can with an email system. The great thing is, if you set it up right your message can SEEM very customised and personal even when they ARE completely automated.

Increase Your Sales – Of course the goal here isn't just to be awesome (though that's a good goal in itself). What you're really looking for in an increase in sales and profits. An email list can deliver you an increase in sales.

The challenge is that if you give up too soon, you’ll never see these benefits. Yes, email marketing starts out slow, but don't give up!

Every marketer – even those with hundreds of thousands on their lists – started with one subscriber, then two, then ten.

Yes it takes time and yes it can be frustrating waiting for the rewards but be patient and diligent, and you will see your efforts pay off over time.

How to Write a Bio for Your Social Media Profiles

2/23/2016

Picture
In order to establish authority and trust on social media it's very important to write a professional sounding bio for your profiles.

When someone finds your account and is deciding whether or not to start following you and whether or not to follow your suggestions to buy X product, one of the first things they will do is to check your profile and to see what you're all about.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and create a business that will support your dreams

They will then make up their mind on this based almost entirely on your bio – so you better make sure it sounds professional and compelling.

How do you ensure that it is?

Professional vs Personal
If this is a business account and you're trying to attract customers, network or otherwise build yourself a reputation then you should make sure to use a professional tone. That means avoiding flippant remarks, using professional terms and checking your spelling and grammar. Just a little personal thrown in for good measure won't hurt though – remember that social media is personal in nature.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and create a business that will support your dreams

Clarity
Make sure you avoid using lots of jargon and buzz words. Your objective is not to sound clever here – you want to be clear and precise about what it is that you do and not dress it up with buzzwords like 'synergy', 'integration', 'emerging markets'. Less is more, so be frugal with your use of words and use short sentences – especially if there's a word limit.

Think About Your Audience
If you're still having a hard time finding your 'tone' then imagine a prototypical person you are marketing to. Maybe you even know someone in real life who fits into the right demographic. Keep them in mind then imagine you're writing directly to them.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and create a business that will support your dreams

Don't Repeat Yourself
If this is LinkedIn, then you'll have a chance to show your accomplishments later on. If it's Facebook, you can include details about your business in other sections. This should be an overview that is efficient in telling people who you are – and that efficiency means avoiding covering ground that will be addressed later.

Outsource
Still struggling? Don't worry, not everyone is a born writer and that's fine. Just make sure that if you don't have that natural 'voice' that you don't just 'make do' with what you've got. Hiring a professional to write your bio shouldn't be expensive and it will result in a much more professional sounding and engaging experience for your visitors.

Your 4-Step Instagram Marketing Plan

2/18/2016

Picture
When devising your internet marketing strategy, it can be all too easy to forget about Instagram in the mix.

However, when used correctly, Instagram is a fantastic way to promote products and services and to increase your brand’s visibility.

READ MORE: Would you like a lifestyle friendly Online business?

Here is a 4-step marketing plan to get you started?

Step 1. Identify Your Market, Create Your Brand
To start with you need to find who it is that you’re marketing to and you need to know what your message is. This is important because it will tell you how you are going to go about creating your image on Instagram and it will tell you what kind of content you should be uploading. Think about lifestyles and messages and try to evoke what your brand represents as well as what it produces. Likewise, ensure you have a strong identity with a recognisable logo and then use this across all your social media efforts. Research the competition too and survey your existing customers.

Step 2. Decide What Kind of Channel You Are, Begin Uploading Content
Decide if you’re interested in creating a personal brand, or if you’re about promoting specific artistic products. Likewise, choose whether you want to upload images that are abstract and that broadly paint a picture of a lifestyle, or whether you want to upload images that provide some kind of value or ‘tips’ for instance. Try different hash tags and make sure you are posting with ones that will bring in new traffic.

Step 3. Be Consistent, Do Promotion, Synergise Across Social Media and Your Website
Keep your content coming and meanwhile make sure that you are sharing to other social media accounts, that you promote your Instagram on there and that you outright ask people to follow you. Meanwhile, research people posting images in your niche and follow/like their work. Comment on other images and add a widget to your own site. All these activities will ensure a steady trickle of new users which will gain momentum over time.

Step 4. Run Contests, Use Local Marketing, Get People Involved
You should also work to try and motivate your existing followers to grow your audience further. Running contests, getting people to comment (using caption contests for instance) and sharing the images that other users have uploaded are all great ways to get people to add to your account and to stay lively and engaged.

You should also use local marketing by location tagging your images and by using local hashtags. If you’re local then you should also get your customers involved as they come in to your shop or business – take photos of them and ask them to tag you in their pictures.

Influencer marketing can also help a great deal. Get people behind your message and leverage the ground work that other individuals and brands have done before you.

Video Marketing: 10 Things You Really Shouldn't Do

2/11/2016

Picture
Video Marketing is an awesome way to boost your business but if it isn’t done right it can be bad for your reputation and make your customers feel uncomfortable.

Here are 10 things you really shouldn’t do in order to get it right:

Don’t make your video too long
Keep it short and simple. It is proven that audience engagement drops after 30 seconds, particularly if customers are not familiar with your brand. Your aim should be to make a maximum impact in a minimum amount of time. It’s essential to communicate your message quickly, otherwise, there’s the risk that people won’t watch it all the way through.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and build the business that will support your dreams

Don’t Use jargon
Your goal should be to get your video shared by as many people as possible. Keep the language simple and avoid unnecessary terminology, because it may turn off your audience. Keep in mind that your video content must reach as many people as possible in your target audience.

Don’t forget to assess results
It’s important to measure the results of your video, as with any other marketing activity. This helps you understand what content works well and what platforms are the most effective, so that you can focus your time and attention in the right places.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and build the business that will support your dreams

Don’t make it too informative
It’s important that your video doesn’t contain too much information about your company because you could confuse your audience. The video content needs to contain the most important points about your business. A lengthy marketing video filled with too much information will likely be ineffective with customers.

Don’t ignore aesthetics
There is no need for a Hollywood production, but remember that quality is related to credibility. Don't forget that your name is at stake here.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and build the business that will support your dreams

Don’t shamelessly self-promote
Avoid posting videos that do nothing but talk about how great your company is. Share your value instead. Use content that people will likely share on social media, like testimonials of satisfied customers, scenes of your customers behind the scenes, or offer free advice about your business.

Don’t focus too much on going viral
Every business seems to treasure the idea of their video “going viral” but, often, too much energy is placed on achieving this, even when it doesn’t make sense commercially. Hits or video views are often used to measure success but, from a marketing point of view, this is a poor way to define success. A well-targeted video could see just 5,000 hits and bring in £10,000, while some other video could rack up millions of hits but only bring in £1,000. Also, you must consider whether a viral video would suit your business. For example, a video produced for a small-town car repair shop is unlikely to lead to an influx of business, even if people around the globe see it.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and build the business that will support your dreams

Don’t express a confusing concept
Not all online videos are as straightforward as they should be, and sometimes videos revolve around a specific concept. It’s important that this concept is clear and doesn’t confuse your audience. Some of the most moneymaking online ads have revolved around a central, simple concept that is effectively linked to a brand. If you are running a global distribution company, a “cute cat” video will only confuse people and most likely will not promote your company as expected. Aim to create an effective concept. Make sure the concept relates to your business in an easy-to-understand way.

Don’t sell too soon
Online video is certainly an excellent sales tool, but starting out with a sales pitch video can be shortsighted. It’s essential that you first aim to establish trust, add value and build your likeability factor, and a video is a great way for achieving this. The fundamental and most important factor is to establish trust first. As soon as you have gained some reputation with your videos, then you can go for the sale. You need to earn their trust just like when using any other marketing tool.

READ MORE: Check out the Digital Duchess and build the business that will support your dreams

Don’t post and pray
When people are starting in this business, sometimes they think that once the video is done, their work is done, when in fact, it’s just beginning. Don’t bet on the “post and pray” strategy, which is not actually a strategy at all. Some people simply upload their video to YouTube or their own website and wait for the views to magically appear. It’s more reasonable to believe that unless you effectively promote your video, the likes and shares will not come.

You need to create a marketing plan for every video and determine how you are going to get the best possible reach out of it. One tactic is to get your video on to as many platforms as possible. You can start with YouTube, and then share your video to Google+, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others.

Keep in mind that more exposure means more views.

7 Things a Good Coach Can do for Their Client

2/11/2016

Picture
Sometimes, people just can’t do things on their own.

They might have tried in the past and found limited success, but a coach that is helping with a specific problem, or a set or problems, creates a brand new environment for them to make the changes they desire, and gives them an entirely new perspective. A coach can be the difference between wishing they could reach their goals and actually doing it.

Here are some things that good coaches can do for their clients:

• Identify where the client actually is and how far they have to go to reach their goals. Many people are closer than they think (and of course, some are farther) but they can’t see it themselves. It takes an outside, objective perspective to allow them to see things clearly.

• Create a safe environment for them to reach their goals. Often, people don’t reach their goals because they don’t feel as if they should be striving for them. Someone in their life may be keeping them from achieving success and working with a coach gives them a safe place to be themselves and do what they want.

• Give them permission to achieve their goals. Some people are their own worst enemies. They feel as if they are not supposed to achieve what they want, and feel guilty about pursuing it. But as a coach, if you tell them they are permitted to follow their dreams, they might just believe you and go ahead and do it.

• Set higher standards than they would have set for themselves. People that are afraid of failure will set lower expectations of themselves, and then wonder why they don’t achieve the success they desire. Having a coach to hold them to a higher standard can often be just what they need.

• Help them build a structure for success. It can be difficult to achieve a big goal if you aren’t sure how to get there, and many people don’t know how to structure a plan that will result in their success. For example, some people aren’t even aware of the relationship between the small, daily actions they choose to take and how it relates to big goals that are to be achieved months or years down the road.

• Give them the support that they might be lacking. Sometimes, all it takes for someone to believe in themselves is for someone else to believe in them first. Your clients may not be getting the support they need from friends or family and that’s where a coach can be useful.

• Give them tools to make changes. Tools like spreadsheets to keep track of progress or journals are highly useful when it comes to setting and achieving goals and making life changes.

3 Mistakes to Avoid When Interacting with Blog Readers

2/9/2016

Picture
If you’re using a blog to generate traffic, one of the best things that you can do is allow people to comment on your post.

In fact, an even better thing to do is to respond to their comments, answer their questions and give advice when needed.

But there are some rules that come with interacting with blog readers so that you don’t make a mistake that will result in your traffic going down instead of up.

Here are three mistakes to avoid when responding to comments on your blog:

1.    The first mistake that we're going to discuss is one that actually happens quite often with bloggers. They sometimes make the mistake of only posting on comments where a question is asked and respond in an aloof manner thinking they are being professional. You’re trying to develop a relationship with these readers and that means interacting with them on a more personal level. You want the readers to think of you as a friend and advisor not as some faceless blogger so make sure that you interact that way.

2.    Another thing that you want to be sure that you do is avoid controversial subjects. Even if other people in your comment thread are discussing politics or religion, and you feel as if you should weigh in, don’t. No matter what you believe or don’t believe, as the blogger and host, you want to be completely neutral on controversial subjects like politics and religion. However, keep in mind that’s only for the comments section. You can use politics or a controversial subject to create a blog post to attract traffic. But just keep out of the arguments and discussions in the comments.

3.    Finally, never lose your temper. You don’t have to always be professional and you can be friendly, but just make sure that you don’t get angry at someone even if they are disparaging you or your blog, especially if they are just trolling. Losing your cool takes away your expertise. People are reading your blog because they believe you to be an expert in a certain field. When you lose your temper, even though it has nothing to do with your expertise, people still judge you based upon that. Also, if you make an error in your blog – like a factual error – don’t be afraid to make a comment and retract and apologise for it. Your readers will respect you for that.

Top Types of Content to Create For Live Streaming

2/8/2016

Picture
Live video streaming is so new that there isn’t much precedent yet for the best type of content to create. However, certain types of content definitely work better on live video than others.

Here are some of the best strategies for creating great content on this platform:

Top Tips
One of the challenges of live video streaming is making sure that you stay on topic without creating something too scripted. Creating a ‘top tips’ structure is a great idea because you can keep returning to your tips and then talk loosely around them. This offers just enough structure without being restrictive and it offers great jumping on points for people joining the stream halfway through.

Reviews
Reviewing a product likewise makes it easy for you to stay on topic but doesn’t restrict you. You’ll have a visual aid and you’ll be able to take cues and instructions from your audience regarding which aspects of the product to show off or discuss.

AMAs
AMAs have been made popular by Reddit. This stands for ‘Ask Me Anything’ and it basically means you’re getting interviewed by your audience. You’ll need to position yourself as a person of interest or an authority for people to want to ask you questions though!

Interviews
Interviews are also very good for live streaming. Find someone interesting and see if you can get them to answer some questions on Blab for people to watch.

Tours
Want to get people interested in your business? Why not give them a guided tour of the office? The ability to interact while filming at the same time lends itself perfectly to this kind of content.

Passive Content
Video streaming introduces a whole new idea in the form of ‘passive content’. This is content that you create without actively creating – in other words it might mean setting up a camera to record yourself talking in a meeting, or it might mean filming yourself working out. It could even mean setting it up to show off a nice view.

Top Ways to Profit From Live Streaming

2/7/2016

Picture
Live streaming is a relatively new platform and is definitely in its infancy in terms of what it’s capable of.

Right now there really isn’t a huge audience here to monetise but it’s constantly growing and it gives you a lot of exciting new opportunities in terms of the ways you can interact with and engage the audience that does exist.

And if you’re looking to start profiting right away, there are also a number of options already available.

Here are just some of the top ways you can start making money from live streaming right away:

Promote a Product
The most obvious way to start making money from live streaming is simply to promote your products through a video. You won’t be able to embed a link, but what you can do is to show off the product live on film and to answer any questions that viewers might have. This is a great way to make your product sound interesting and to really compel people to place an order. Live streaming a launch is a particularly effective way to promote a product and can result in a lot of sales!

Find Sponsors
Right now it’s not going to be that easy to find sponsors for your live streaming as the audience is still quite small and the technology is very new. As this grows though, this will be a huge opportunity for content creators. In fact, platforms like YouNow have already been paying their content creators just to fill the platform!
In the future, expect to receive offers from brands that want you to review or show off their products.

Premium Content
Many marketers sell courses, seminars and one-to-one consultations from their platforms and there’s no reason that you can’t do this through live streaming. In fact, live video lends itself very well to this type of content and gives you the option to sell access to a video to multiple different users at once to take part in a live discussion or seminar.

Brand Awareness and Loyalty
Really though, the main way that you’re likely make money from live streaming is by building your brand, strengthening your relationships and generally building your audience. This is a long-term strategy but it’s one that can pay off in dividends. Especially when you consider how little time and money you’ll need to invest into your marketing activities on these platforms!

Email Marketing Terminology You Really Need to Know

2/3/2016

Picture
When you start the process of email marketing and trying to build your own list of subscribers then you have to get to grips with the terminology.

Check out the SIX things you really need to know about and understand in order to have a successful email marketing campaign.

Email List: An email list is simply a collection of email addresses. Most marketers will also collect the person's first name with the email address so that the email can be personalised through automation software. ie. Instead of just saying “Hi”, you can say “Hi, Tom” in the emails. It's also possible to collect information such as location or phone numbers so you can further segment your list and market to them based on certain criteria.

Opt-In Form/Squeeze Page: An opt-in form or squeeze page is an online form where visitors to your website or blog fill in their contact information to join your email list. With services like Aweber, that information is automatically added to your email list with no action on your part – automation is great!

Subscriber: Someone who has joined your email list, typically by filling out an opt-in form. They are now part of your “list,” and you can contact them via email with offers, information, updates, and more.

Email Service Provider (ESP): A company that provides the email software you can use to send out emails. There are a few good ones you can use including AWeber, GetResponse and MailChimp.

Autoresponder: A list of email messages that goes out in sequence, automatically. For autoresponders, it doesn't matter how many people sign up to your list or when they sign up. They'll get message #1 automatically, then message #2 a set time later, message #3 a set time later again, etc. It's a great way to automate parts of your business.

Broadcast: A broadcast email goes out at a specific date and time. It's different from an autoresponder as it's a one-time deal. Everyone on your list receives this broadcast message at the same time, regardless of when they joined your list. These are often used for sales notifications, special offers, time-sensitive announcements, and the like.

Like any specialty, email marketing has its own vocabulary. Knowing the basic terms will help you understand what people are talking about.

10 Do's of WhatsApp Marketing

2/3/2016

Picture
WhatsApp is an amazing tool that can help your business stay in touch with customers or potential clients.

Some of the things that you can implement when using this powerful tool to grow your business are the following:

Create a WhatsApp account exclusively for your company
One problem that many find when using WhatsApp, or any other messaging application meant for communicating with clients or business contacts, is regarding its use as a personal app.

Create an account for your business, and use a "working device", it will help you send mailings to your corporate contacts. You can manage, according to the size of your business, different devices with different phone lines. Also, you can assign staff to each one of the services you provide.

Managing all your services from the same single phone line could result in inconsistent attention to your customers, creating dissatisfaction in them, especially when there are many people using your services.

Most importantly, do not forget to include your new WhatsApp account in all your promotional materials, as a way to contact your business.

Prepare a database
Make a contacts lists, thus you are creating a database, labeling your customers according to their interests.

It is important to get to know the interests of your clients you are targeting with your marketing efforts, this way, you can focus on them and you'll more likely to get a positive response.

In addition to separating current and potential customers, you must keep continuously updating your database, in order to implement appropriate tools for each.

Create groups
Besides preparing a database with all your contacts, the idea is to create separate groups for keeping them up to date with news, upcoming services or special offers.
WhatsApp allows you to create such groups by selecting that option on its system. This is a great way for keeping in touch with your customers.

The Group Chat allows you to chat with up to 100 people at once. Besides, you get to administrate these groups. You can include or exclude any participants or change the subject and image, among other things.

Define your message
When you are finished separating your contacts, the next step is working on the message you want to deliver. Define the message you want to communicate, the type of message and to whom it is addressed. It is important to be specific and concise when writing this message, so your customers can be enthralled and will not lose any interest.

An advantage that WhatsApp offers is that it doesn't limit the amount of characters. You should not abuse this advantage though, because messages could become boring or annoying.

Request authorisation
As part of the application policy use, it is prohibited to use the messaging platform for sending advertising without the consent of the target users.

In order to work within the legal and appropriate use of tools, you can create forms that include questions asking if they use WhatsApp and if they authorise you to send them information.

Many customers appreciate that request, and better yet, this requirement will create confidence in them, ensuring you have good intentions.

Send precise notifications and reminders
Using WhatsApp can be as personalised as you want. In fact, in order to provide an outstanding service, the best option is writing direct messages to each client.

You can contact your customers through WhatsApp to see if they will attend your event, or if they will make a reservation.

You can use it to send event invitations to seminars or workshops, and communicate promotions, releases or offers.

This is an excellent way to inform your customers about any developments related to your business.

Use audio, video or images
WhatsApp is very simple and easy to use, and sending multimedia content, whether images, audio or video is straightforward. Take advantage of this tool.

The possibilities here are many and diverse. You can send short videos regarding how you do your job, an image of a new product, or an audio file.

It has been proven that marketing strategies in which images or videos were used in order to convey a message, provide a better chance of getting the attention of the customer.

Create impact and encourage sharing
Seeking to create innovative messages and have a good design will add value to your contacts. This will make the recipient of your message be captivated and, automatically, pass it on to their followers.

Think about the message you want to communicate and make a creative decision. Do not do what everyone else does. Imagine something new, this way you can reach thousands of people.

Optimize sending
You must be objective and avoid being intrusive by sending content at inappropriate times. Send your messages at the best moments and times, usually during office hours.

It is also important to consider what type of business you possess, in order to optimize the sending of your message.

If you have a small business, you can send one message at a time, until the last contact. This method is laborious, but it has charm because of the personal nature of the messages.

If you have a big company, it is best to keep in touch with your customers through groups. Always bear in mind that all recipients will have access to the entire group of phone numbers, which usually does not please some customers.

Keep serving customers
After following these simple tips, you must retain your customers, providing an environment of loyalty towards them. For achieving this, you can create promotions targeted to your customers, and give them more efficient care service.

You can also reward your customers through special offers, and sharing information about any offers or discounts.

By using WhatsApp, you can offer immediate customer service in a one-to-one setting - for that personal touch.

To Your Success!
