It may be that your state of mind can make the difference between a successful business and a failed one. It can make a difference in your personal satisfaction and how others view your business efforts. Developing a successful mindset is key. But how? Here are some tips.

FREE Course- Stop Dreaming and Start Doing: How to Create a Successful Business

Be Realistic

Having impossible-to-reach goals is a good way to set yourself up for discouragement. You want to have goals that are high enough to inspire you, but not so high that you miss them again and again. If you are having trouble meeting your goals and thinking positively, stop and take an assessment of your goals. Maybe you need to pull your goals back down toward the earth a bit.

Challenge Yourself

On the other hand, you might find yourself getting negative about your business because you are not challenged. If it is just too easy to meet your goals, perhaps your goals are not high enough. Challenge yourself, but keep it manageable.

Keep Positive Company

When you hang around with negative nay-sayers, it tends to rub off. Your acquaintances might be jealous of you, too, and threatened by your success. Try to keep company with upbeat people whose excitement is contagious.

Write Your Dreams

Keep a list handy of all the reasons you started your home-based business. Look at it whenever you feel overwhelmed or negative. Remind yourself of why you're doing this. This list might include financial goals, too, and why you want to earn that money.

Don't Blame Others

Don't blame others for your failures. Of course, it's not positive to beat yourself up over your failures, either. The healthy way to handle failure is to take responsibility for the failure and learn from it. Think of it as a motivational moment - you can improve and not make the same mistakes again.

Be Bold

Sometimes, you can exhibit a negative mindset by being too cautious. If you always feel the need to have several back-up plans before taking any risk or venture, it can hold you back. Being sensible about risks is healthy, but being overly cautious can paralyze you.

Confidence in Your Abilities

Sometimes it's hard to believe in yourself and your talents. But if you want to develop a positive mindset, you need to think well of yourself and your skills. Have confidence in your skills. There may be others who have similar skills, but no one has your personality behind them.

Email Marketing: You’re Asking the Wrong Question

5/28/2016

Here’s the question that’s on everyone’s mind when they start thinking about mailing lists:

“Which service should I use?”

You’ve probably wondered yourself, and maybe even spent a few hours (or days, or weeks) researching your options.

Stop!

READ MORE: Here’s the secret to more business, more profits, and even more free time…

This is not the question you should be asking (yet). And it’s exactly why so many entrepreneurs get stuck in the planning stage of list building.

The First Step In List Building

Before you need to think about tools, you must ask yourself this:
“How can I best serve my market?”

And when you discover what that need is, you’ll have two valuable pieces of information:
  1. What incentive will be a true no-brainer for your ideal client to opt-in to your list?
  2. How can you use your mailing list to provide the best value for those who join your list?

Don’t over-think these questions, though. Your opt-in incentive can be as simple as a resource guide or a short how-to video that answers a common question. You don’t have to go overboard with dozens of downloads and a 100-page eBook. Rather than providing value, these massive downloads are more likely to overwhelm your reader than encourage her to learn more.

And when it comes to providing value to your list members, keep three things in mind:
  1. Regular communication is a must (consider an autoresponder series if you’re not good with scheduling email updates)
  2. Marketing is second to information—too much selling will cause your opt-out rates to soar.
  3. It’s your responsibility as a thought leader in your market to distill and provide the information, tools and products your audience needs.

“What is my list-building goal?”

How will you be using your list?

Will you:
  • Send a weekly or monthly newsletter?
  • Create an autoresponder series that delivers content on a pre-determined schedule?
  • Use affiliate links as an income generator?
  • Promote your own services and products?

The answers to these questions will help you determine not only the right tool for your list-building needs, but will also determine the path for your ongoing mailing list content, promotions, and growth.

4 Tips for Making Your Online Content More Readable

5/28/2016

Writing for an online audience isn’t the same as writing for print publications.

Yes, good grammar and spelling help make sure that your content actually makes sense! However, many other traditional rules of writing are meant to be broken online. One of the reasons is due to the way people actually read online content. They don’t want big paragraphs, they want short sections that are easy to scan.

READ MORE: Do you need more email subscribers?

Here’s how to make sure your content is super readable to stop your visitors from clicking away:

1) Short Paragraphs

The first way you can make your content more readable is by breaking down your content into shorter paragraphs. This way, won’t overwhelm visitors with giant blocks of text. When you keep your paragraphs short, your reader will be able to better pay attention to what you have written, and will easily be able to skip from section to section.

2) Subheadings and Bullets

Following on from the point above, subheading and bullet points also go one step further to make your content easy to read on a screen. Subheadings give your reader a general idea of what the upcoming content is about, which can help keep people’s interest for longer. Bullet points are short and to the point, providing key information in a straightforward manner.

3) Images

Times have changed and people expect text to be broken up with images these days. Not only do they help make your website look nicer, and make articles easier to scan. Images also add to your brand. The good news is that you don’t need to take all of the photographs yourself! Although personal photographs are a great touch for most blogs, you can also find quality images on various stock photo websites.

4) Tone

If you are writing informal content, then keep your tone light, casual, and funny. Write in first and second person to keep your audience entertained and feeling as though you’re writing for them personally. Of course, there are some situations where this rule does not apply (for example, if you’re writing for a professional or technical website). However, in most cases, developing an informal tone that shows off your personality is a great way to connect with your readers and help make your content more readable.

Remember, it takes time to learn how to write online – especially if you’re used to the strict rules of offline writing! The good news is that you can use website traffic stats and comments to help judge which content your readers love.

How to Get More Clients Fast

5/13/2016

If you’re a service provider or coach, you may be looking to grow your business quickly. After all, the fuller your schedule, the more you can be sure you’re financially secure.

To get more clients fast, there are three sure-fire ways to go about it.

Referral System

Referrals are when someone, generally a happy client, tells another person about your business. As a service provider or coach you can have an informal referral program or a formal one. An informal referral program is pretty easy. You simply ask your current customers if they know of anyone who could benefit from your services. They may send people your direction or give you a few names to contact. Many businesses grow this way.

A formal referral program is a reward-based program. Anyone who refers a new customer to you would receive a reward. The reward could be a discount on your services or it could be a freebie. For example, if you’re a writer you might offer anyone who refers new clients to you a free ten-page report or £15 off their next order. A formal referral program requires that people sign up for the program. You might send a monthly newsletter to members to remind or motivate them to refer new clients.

Regardless of the system you choose, referrals work quite well to get more clients fast because they’re coming from a trusted source. If you ask someone where to go to eat and they tell you the name of a restaurant they like, you’re more likely to go there than to an unfamiliar place because it’s been recommended to you. You trust the information.

Affiliates

The second way to get more clients fast is to start an affiliate program. Affiliates are people who agree to promote your services in exchange for a commission. It requires a bit more work than a referral program; however, it can be extremely effective. Affiliates market your business for you and they drive traffic to your website. For every new client, they earn a paycheck. It’s a good system. To help them succeed you may provide them with marketing content, advertisements and other information to use on their website.

Partnerships

The third and final way to get more clients fast is to forge a partnership with other complimentary businesses. For example, if you’re a writer you might partner with a website designer. Their clients will need content for their website and your clients may need a website redesign. It’s a win-win situation.

To get more clients fast, take advantage of your current assets. What partnerships can you forge, and what clients can you ask for referrals and recommendations?

7 Ways to Overcome Impostor Syndrome

Do you ever feel like you shouldn't deserve credit for your accomplishments?

You may have worked very hard to reach some specific goal in your life. You may consistently enjoy a high level of production, and are known as the "go to" guy or gal when results matter. Even though, for whatever reason, you feel like a fake or impostor, and you constantly suffer the unrealistic fear that you will be "found out", with dire consequences following.

This is known as impostor syndrome. The term was developed by psychologists Dr. Pauline R. Clance and Suzanne A. Imes. They noticed a significant number of high-achieving individuals could not give themselves proper credit for their hard-fought accomplishments.

People struggling with impostor syndrome have a persistent fear of being viewed as a fraud, faker and impostor, when in almost every situation they worked hard for and deserved their achievements. If you have a hard time giving yourself credit for the things you achieve, practice the following tips to overcome impostor syndrome, enjoying the credit that is rightfully yours.

1 – Don't blame yourself for opportunities you've been given. Just because you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, or got a job because you knew someone important, doesn't mean you don't work hard and deserve credit.

2 – Keep a success file. Record every occasion where you helped someone succeed. Write down all of your successes, testimonials and achievements. Refer to them whenever you feel like a fraud.

3 – Tell yourself that you are just suffering from imposter syndrome. Sometimes spelling it out, calling your behaviour what it is, is all you need to get past it.

4 – Remember that failing doesn't make you a fake. The greatest achievements have come on the heels of failure. Failing or making a mistake does not make you a fraud or impostor.

5 – Remember that you have something important to give the world. When you feel like a fraud or impostor, you pull back and don't try as hard. This is unfair to the world, which needs your unique presence and abilities.

6 – Ask yourself this question. Do you want to lie on your deathbed, regretting things you did not do or attempt in your life? Believing that you are a fraud or fake can cause you to take less chances, which can lead to regret.

7 – Enjoy the realization that nobody really knows what they're doing. Seriously, even people who are massively successful financially, personally or spiritually are just winging it. We are all trying to get through this thing called life, and we really don't know what we're doing.
