Email marketing is the key to unlocking major profits for your business. It is such an underused tool for many companies because some people don’t know how to use it, while others feel because it is essentially FREE, then it can’t be that useful. Well, trust me when I tell you that your money is in your email list.

As a business owner, blogger or information product producer the first thing you have to do is to start building your list of hungry subscribers.

Email marketing is so powerful because you can get your product or service right in front of potential customers by landing in their inboxes.

When you start email marketing, because you are trying a more personal approach with people, there are certain rules you should follow just so that you avoid any faux pas.

Here are seven tips that will avoid frustrating the hell out of your audience when you email them and will also help you to get more clicks and conversions by not rubbing them up the wrong way.

Two a Week is Enough
You don’t want to bombard your potential customers by constantly emailing them as they will click the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the rate of knots. However, if you’ve been emailing people for a while and you have a product you want to launch, then it would be ok to send a higher amount of emails.

The rest of the time though, try to avoid going beyond 2 a week. Otherwise you'll just frustrate your audience and they'll quickly become sick of your messages.

Avoid ALL CAPS
All caps are annoying wherever they are located but in your inbox it's particularly abrasive and rude. Don't do it!

Use Re: With Caution
Using 'Re:' in the subject header is a great way to draw attention to your emails. It's also somewhat manipulative though and essentially amounts to you tricking your readers into opening your message. Don't overdo this method. It drives people nuts.

Make Unsubscribing Easy
If you use Aweber, GetResponse or MailChimp as your autoresponder then unsubscribing should be very easy for people. You have to make sure it is easy for people to leave your emailing list otherwise you can do some serious damage to your brand and reputation.

Deliver Value
Content is King! I really can’t stress this enough. If someone has subscribed to your mailing list then they want you to contact them, however, your emails will be even more welcome if you provide value to them. As long as you offer value, people will have a good reason to read what you're sending them and they'll be glad for it. Consistently do this and they will gradually become fans of your work. If you send lots of messages that are just self-promoting then people will just get annoyed at you.

Respect Privacy
Yes, you can sell an email list for a lot of money. However, unless you have explicitly gotten permission from your subscribers this is something you should NOT DO.
Ultimately, you are a guest in your subscribers' homes. Act that way and treat them with the respect and gratitude they deserve.
